Susan Harrison (1938–2019) was an American actress best remembered for her role in one of the most acclaimed films of the 1950s, Sweet Smell of Success (1957). In the movie, she played Susan Hunsecker, the vulnerable young sister of Burt Lancaster’s powerful and manipulative newspaper columnist. Her performance, alongside Lancaster and Tony Curtis, gave the story its emotional core and remains her most recognized work on screen.
Born in Florida and raised in New York City, Harrison studied acting at the High School of Performing Arts and later at the famed Actors Studio, where she honed her craft in method acting. Beyond her film debut, she worked steadily in television during the 1950s and ’60s, appearing in series such as Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Perry Mason, and The Twilight Zone.
