Dolly Parton and Hulk Hogan on “Dolly” (Episode: “He’s Got a Headlock on My Heart”) in 1987

In 1987, Dolly Parton welcomed Hulk Hogan as a special guest on her short-lived variety series Dolly (ABC, 1987–88) in the episode titled “He’s Got a Headlock on My Heart”. This episode originally aired on November 22, 1987, and was one of the more playful, stunt-filled installments of the show.

Parton, dressed in a glittery, wrestling-inspired outfit, participated in lighthearted skits with Hogan, who was at the peak of his World Wrestling Federation (WWF) fame. The title’s pun—“headlock on my heart”—was used as the premise for flirtatious jokes and mock wrestling antics.

The segment was a music video for a song Parton wrote called “He’s Got a Headlock on My Heart.” The song and video were a humorous response to tabloid rumors that she was going to marry a 300-pound professional wrestler. In the video, Parton and Hogan “get married” in a wrestling ring.

Parton performed songs throughout the episode, mixing her signature country-pop sound with the big, showbiz variety style the series was known for. Hogan even joined in for some comic bits and friendly banter. The pairing of Parton’s bubbly Southern charm and Hogan’s over-the-top wrestling persona created a humorous contrast that played perfectly to 1980s television audiences.

This episode stands out among the Dolly series’ 21-episode run for its sheer camp appeal—blending country music, pop culture, and wrestling spectacle during a time when Hogan was a massive mainstream celebrity.
