The Seventies: The Most Colorful Decade of Fashion

The early 1970s fashion scene was very similar to 1969, it was really a fun era. It culminated some of the best elements of the 60s and perfected, or exaggerated them. Polyester was the material of choice and bright colors were everywhere.

At that time, Vogue proclaimed “There are no rules in the fashion game now.” Instead of brands and following the trends like previous eras, the 70s were about “Freedom”, “Identity” and “Personal Expression”.

Fashion in the 1970s is about individuality. It began with a continuation of the mini skirts, bell-bottoms, and the androgynous hippie look from the late 1960s and eventually became an iconic decade for fashion. It wouldn't be a hyperbole to say that a revolution of fashion occurred in the 1970s.

These are selected slides from the most colorful decade of fashion, The Seventies!
