With no rules governing the sport, women's boxing in this period had a reputation for being even fiercer than we know it today.

Marriage Advice for Young Ladies From a Suffragette, Includes Avoiding Flirts, Tailor's Dummies and Football Enthusiasts

The suffragettes fought hard for their right to vote and be strong independent women, but they also fought for equality when it came to men and women. Hence, the “Advice on Marriage. To Young Ladies”. It truly is a hilarious piece of advice that was probably created in 1918, but still very relevant today. The leaflet is on display at the Pontypridd Museum in Wales.

The anonymous suffragette started off her list of eight tips include not marrying at all. She advised young ladies to avoid “flirts”, “tailor’s dummies” and “football enthusiasts”, but instead look for a window cleaner or yard swiller - someone who cleans the yard.

The suffragette warned women “not to expect too much”, and described most men as “lazy, selfish, thoughtless, lying, drunken, clumsy, heavy-footed, rough, unmanly brutes, and need taming”.

She added that if a woman wants to keep her husband happy, she should “feed the brute” - commenting that the “same remark applies to dogs”.

She finished off her advice with the line: “You will be wiser not to chance it, it isn’t worth the risk”.

32 Black and White Photos That Document Everyday Life of North Vietnam in the Late 1960s

After the failure to reunify Vietnam by elections, the Democratic Republic of Vietnam attempted to unify the country by force in the Vietnam War (1955–75). North Vietnam and the Việt Cộng insurgents supported by their communist allies, including the Soviet Union and China, fought against the military of South Vietnam, the United States and other anti-communist military forces, including South Korea, Australia, Thailand, and smaller players.

North Vietnam also supported indigenous communist rebels in Cambodia and Laos against their respective U.S.-backed governments. The war ended when North Vietnamese forces and the Việt Cộng defeated South Vietnam and in 1976 united the two parts of the country into the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

The expanded Democratic Republic retained North Vietnam's political culture under Soviet influence and continued its existing memberships in international organisations such as Comecon.

These amazing black and white photos were taken by French photographer Marc Riboud that documented everyday life of North Vietnam in 1969.
