A Look Back When Jack Nicholson and Anjelica Huston Were Together

In 1973, a 22-year-old Huston accompanied her friend to a party at Nicholson’s house. She fell in love at first sight when he opened the door and spent the night with him. Only until a few days later that Nicholson called her back, but then their date was canceled because of a previous obligation. This set a tone for their sixteen-year brutal romance: Nicholson had his affairs while Huston suffered and held out hope in silence. Their turbulent relationship came to an end the day Huston learned that he had fathered a child with a younger woman.

24 Fabulous Photos Capture Portraits of Young Couples in the Mid-19th Century

In the 1850s, women’s skirts were domed and bell-shaped, supported by crinoline petticoats. They often featured deep flounces or tiers. Long bloomers and pantaloons trimmed with lace were popular. Tiered cape-jackets were fashionable, as were paisley patterned shawls. Deep bonnets were worn and hair was swept into buns or side coils from a centre parting.

1860s women’s dresses featured tight bodices with high necks and buttoned fronts. White lace was popular for collars and cuffs, as were low sloping shoulders that flared out into wide sleeves. The skirt continued to be full and bell-shaped until around 1865 when it began to lose its volume at the front and move its emphasis towards the back.

Hair was worn with a centre parting tied into low chignons at the nape of the neck, with loops or ringlets covering the ears. Ornaments for evening wear included floral wreaths, ostrich feathers, pomegranate flowers, wheatears and butterflies.

Men wore matching coats, waistcoats and trousers, with hairstyles characterized by large mutton-chop side-burns and moustaches. Shirts had high upstanding collars and were tied at the neck with large bow-ties. High fastening and tight fitting frock coats were also very fashionable; though a new style called the sack coat (a thigh-length, loosely fitted jacket) became popular.

The bowler hat was invented around 1850, but was generally seen as a working class hat, while top-hats were favored by the upper classes.

In the 1860s, it was fashionable for men’s coats and jackets to be single-breasted and semi-fitted, extending to the mid thigh. Waistcoats were often collarless and single-breasted, and trousers were occasionally cut from a narrow check cloth. High, starched collars were worn with cravats and neck-ties.

Here below is a set of fabulous photos that shows fashion styles of young couples in the 1850s and 1860s.

30 Candid Photographs of Carrie Fisher and Paul Simon in the 1980s

Carrie Fisher called the Big Apple home in the late 1970s and early 1980s while she was coupled with musician Paul Simon. The two were wed in a traditional Jewish ceremony hosted in the groom’s swanky duplex overlooking Central Park on August 16, 1983. Fisher was 26, Simon 41.

Fisher and Simon lived in his Upper West Side apartment until their divorce a year later. “Then we dated again,” Fisher wrote in her 2008 memoir Wishful Drinking. “We were together for more than 12 years (off and on) and we traveled a lot. The last place we went to was the Amazon, which I recommend if you like mosquitoes.”

Describing the relationship and marriage of Carrie Fisher and Paul Simon as on-again, off-again, on-again, would be a massive understatement. Across 12 years, the pair dated, split, became engaged to another, dated again and then decided rather than split they should wed. After the marriage ended they continued to date for another 10 years.

“Years ago there were tribes that roamed the earth, and every tribe had a magic person,” Fisher wrote. “Well, now, as you know, all the tribes have dispersed, but every so often you meet a magic person, and every so often, you meet someone from your tribe. Which is how I felt when I met Paul Simon.”

While depression-era wedding dresses of the 1930s were simpler, their ladylike classy cuts were exuded pure elegance. Partly inspired by rising Hollywood glamour, the dresses featured a slightly dropped waist and tighter fit.

“The Bride appears at her loveliest in the new fitted and moulded gowns with long, sweeping lines” Vogue, 1930. Necklines were high, sleeves were long, and accessories were regal. It was the time of high fashion weddings — but on Depression era budgets.
