Amazing Polaroids of Dolly Parton Taken by Andy Warhol, 1985

By 1985 Dolly Parton was one of the most famous stars in America. Over the previous ten years Parton had successfully transitioned from Country signer to super celebrity; her albums sold over a million copies and won Grammys. Between 1981 and 1985, she had twelve Top-10 hits. Her films (and their theme-songs) such as 9-to-5 and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, were massive commercial hits.

It is no secret that Andy Warhol (1928-1987) was fascinated by fame, especially when possessed by beautiful and intriguing women. Under what circumstances Dolly Parton entered Warhol’s world is a story arguably too large for this platform, but in 1985 the two connected. Warhol, in his typical portrait-making approach, took a number of Polaroids of Dolly.
