Easter Eggs for Hitler, 1945

Easter Sunday, 1945. Technical Sergeant William E. Thomas and Private First Class Joseph Jackson prepared a gift of special “Easter Eggs” for Adolph Hitler and the German Army. Scrawling such messages on artillery shells in World War II was one way in which artillery soldiers could humorously express their dislike of the enemy. (via National Archives)

  1. The fire Nixon was hosing down during was the Bel-Air fire of 1961 - it was fierce! I lived over toward the beach in Pacific Palisades from the fire and was sooo frightened -- that fire took out a lot of our friend's homes. Love the photo of Sammy and his dad with 'uncle' Willy dancing. I went with my folks often to Ciro's to see lots of folks there - it was a rocking club & playground for many!
